Time to Adopt Something that Works

The BBC reported on September 26th, that in Britain, "There is "no quantified evidence" about whether threatening to close schools affects their pupils' performance, the National Audit Office says." It is about time that governments and educators began to implement programs for which quantified evidence exists showing that they do work. The most widely researched program that has proved to be successful time and time again is Consciousness-Based education, which includes the practice of the Transcendental Meditation program in schools and universities.

Stress is a Huge Problem in Schools

According to an article in "The Observer" stress is creating a huge problem in schools: "Half of all teachers have thought about quitting because of stress. Lack of respect from pupils, heavy workload, and dealing with 'pushy parents' are all blamed, according to a YouGov survey in 2007. . . studies have consistently found that teachers are among the most stressed workers in Britain. In a survey published in the Journal of Managerial Psychology in 2005, teaching was ranked as the second most stressful job out of 26 occupations, including, and exceeding, that of ambulance drivers."

The solution is simple. Visit http://www.stressfreeschools.org to find out how hundreds of schools worldwide have solved the problem of stress and created havens of peace and harmony, where students enjoy success without stress.

David Lynch Greets Thousands of Students Practicing the Transcendental Meditation program in Brazil

The David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace has now funded over 40,000 students to learn the Transcendental Meditation Program in Brazil. BelowIMG_8448 we see David being greeted by 4,000 children who then enjoyed a group meditation together. Several schools in the United States have begun this program in recent months with immediate reductions in stress, anxiety, and behavior problems being reported, together with increased academic performance.David Lynch:city of children

Transcendental Meditation Technique in Schools

If you are looking for an example of a school that offers Consciousness-Based education then check out the link below to the video "School For Thought" that appeared on U Tube recently. It was shot at Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenent, Fairfield, Iowa.

Transcendental Meditation Technique Helps Reduce High Blood Pressure

Transcendental Meditation is an effective treatment for controlling high blood pressure with the added benefit of bypassing possible side effects and hazards of anti-hypertension drugs, according to a new meta-analysis conducted at the University of Kentucky. The study appears in the March 2008 issue of the American Journal of Hypertension.

The study's lead author, Dr. James W. Anderson, professor of medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, said that blood pressure reductions of this magnitude would be expected to be accompanied by significant reductions in risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease—without drug     side effects.  Anderson's most recent findings reinforce an earlier study that found Transcendental Meditation produces a statistically significant reduction in high blood pressure that was not found with other forms of relaxation, meditation, biofeedback or stress management. "Adding Transcendental Meditation is about equivalent to adding a second antihypertension agent to one's current regimen only safer and less troublesome," Anderson said.

Comment

Doctors are saying that hypertension is the "silent killer" and that complications from hypertension will lead to more deaths worldwide than any other disorder. Fortunately, we can now make education "prevention oriented" by introducing the Transcendental Meditation technique into the daily routine of any school.

Stress is Harming Children

Excerpt from the Guardian

Generation stressed

Junk food, computer games, relentless marketing and competitive schooling are making British children depressed, according to an influencial group of experts. But why pick on kids when you could say just the same about all of us, says Anne Karpf

Comment:

Fortunately, the Transcendental Meditation program in schools has been found to be highly effective in reducing the harmful effects of stress and developing the total creative potential of every child. Education can now be prevention-oriented. To find out more read my new book, A Record of Excellence

Schools Should Increase Students' Creativity and Intelligence

Hundreds of published studies have reported that the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique produces a wide range of benefits when applied in schools, leading to unprecedented educational outcomes—academically, artistically, in creative problem solving, in sports, and in the development of good citizenship.

For example, a study published in the journal Intelligence* found that students at a high school in Taiwan who had learned the Transcendental Meditation technique six months earlier had, compared with controls, increased significantly in creativity, fluid intelligence, and practical intelligence, and had decreased in levels of anxiety. At Maharishi School in Iowa, Upper School grades consistently score in the top 1% on standardized tests both nationally and in Iowa, and the school has won over a hundred state, national, and international championships in the past decade.

Similar successes have been reported at hundreds of schools, colleges, and universities around the world, with students representing a broad spectrum of economic, cultural, and religious backgrounds. These include institutions as diverse as inner city middle schools in Detroit and Washington, D.C., a university in Beijing, and a vocational college in South Africa. Welcome to my Web Log

My name is Dr. Ashley Deans. I am in my fifteenth year as Director of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, serving Maharishi Vedic City and Fairfield, Iowa, USA. I love to come to School every day and be with the incredibly creative, intelligent, enthusiastic, and wholesome students at Maharishi School. I have just completed a book about their amazing accomplishments. It is called "A Record of Excellence: The Remarkable Success of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment." You can find a summary at http://www.Arecordofexcellence.com To order the book visit http://www.mumpress.com

Did you know that top brain researchers report that modern education damages your child’s brain? It seems that the pressures and stresses a child faces as he or she navigates the often treacherous corridors of student life, from elementary school through university graduate programs, can inhibit the development of a still-developing brain, thereby not only stifling a student’s innate inner genius and natural thirst for knowledge, but also giving rise to a wide range of learning and behavioral problems.

But the answer lies not in new teaching methods or medications to sedate the brain. I know because at Maharishi School we use the Transcendental Meditation technique and Consciousness-Based education to wake up the brain—to develop the brain’s full potential.

The results are incredible. Our students are shining examples of creativity and intelligence. They have won over a hundred state, national, and international titles in the past decade. Last year they won two world championships and had three world runner up finishes in DestinationImagination (a creative problem solving competition), a better showing than all the schools in California combined!

This Web Log will show you how  Consciousness-Based education can bring these results to any school. Visit our website at http://maharishischooliowa.org

How to Solve the School Dropout Problem

Time Magazine, April 10th, has a cover story entitled, "Dropout Nation." The article reports that the number of high school students who leave before graduating is higher--much higher--than you think.

Comment: Dissatisfaction with education is inevitable with a fact-based approach to learning that fails to develop the total creative potential of the student. Read my new book A Record of Excellence: The Remarkable Success of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment to learn how Consciousness-Based education develops the total brain physiology of the student, leading to unprecedented educational outcomes, together with better health, and improved social behavior. This program, when practiced in groups such as school classes, has also been shown to reduce acute social stress, resulting in decreased crime, terrorism, conflict, and war.  To learn more visit the websites below:

How to Reduce Stress and Anxiety

An excerpt from an article on sleep in the Observer, Sunday, April 9th reads, " 'The pity of it is that so many people are obliged to lead a life of anxiety and high tension.' This statement comes from the British Medical Journal but was written in September 1894. It entirely conveys what most people feel is the truth now about life in Britain." And probably life in most of the modern world as well. That is why it is so important that students in schools and colleges receive a Consciousness-Based education, which includes the practice of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program, including Yogic Flying. These advanced technologies of consciousness dissolve stress and tension on both an individual and societal level, leading to increased creativity and intelligence, better health, and reduced crime and conflict in society.
